Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

D               A
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
G             A
God of glory, Lord of love;
D                  A
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
G              A   D
opening to the sun above.

A        D         A       D
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
A         D       E       A
drive the dark of doubt away;
D            A
Giver of immortal gladness,
G                A        D
fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
Singing bird and flowing fountain
call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving,
ever blessing, ever blessed,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
ocean depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
all who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the happy chorus,
which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o’er us,
brother love binds man to man.

Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward
in the triumph song of life.

  1. hi! thanks for posting chords to song- a few small recommendations: replace the Em with Bm, and replace A with G on 1st, 3rd, and 7th lines for a fuller sound

  2. Thanks for the chords and the recommendations.

  3. In the first line, “we adore thee”, I think that should be a ‘G’ chord rather than an ‘A’. I’ve tried a few other songs on this site and played them [on guitar] all just fine with the chord names above them and this was the first snag (and the only [in my opinion] ‘off’ chord in the bunch).

  4. Oops! And ditto with the lines “Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee” and “Giver of immortal gladness”… I’m thinking those “A”‘s shoud be “G” too.

  5. Thank,s for the chords we realy need it and it is depend upon the singer if what chords they need.

  6. Great Chord Sheet. Looks and sounds great to me.

  7. hi,
    Just played thru it a few times. I had played the melody in a guitar course I was studying from. It was fun to work through the rhythm. Aso whether the chords are right or wrong they look and sounded pretty good to me with a small change of the E Minor to an E. Doing that little bit just seemed to add some power to it. Thank you for your work, it is a lot to gather the lyrics, then work out the chords and present it.

  8. We need someone with qualifications nn young models

  9. Thank you so very much! May I print these?
